Found some time to visit the Vandalur Zoo in Chennai. I hate zoos that enclose animals. But the lure of photographing them took me to the zoo anyway.

Fairy Queen

On September 4, 2007, I had an opportunity to visit Perambur Loco Works to witness the trial run of the Fairy Queen...the oldest working steam locomotive in the world - according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Now I am not a big believer of these Guinness guys and their claims but then you do not get to see a locomotive made in 1855 every day! The Fairy Queen comes to Perambur Loco Works from New Delhi, once every two years for a periodic overhaul. The Queen was built in 1855 and was used to haul trains between Howrah and Raniganj in the East. It was retired in 1908 and restored again in 1996! Believe me, it is a real beauty....despite all these years. Here are the pictures:

Ah! Sunday! A rainy day! Nowhere to go! Plenty of time...after sweeping the house, swabbing the floors, doing the laundry, washing the balconies, dusting the cupboards, a shave and cold shower and a cooking and having a lunch of some indifferent rice and sambhar, not to mention frying a few dozens of appadums ...to browse through the pile of snaps I have on my computer.
